From district to home. We are building a district that is a real home for the people who live here. Because it is possible to live well and healthily in the city centre in a homely environment. We initiate and support modern and sustainable developments that keep residents here and make Józsefváros a home for them in the long run.

Renewing public spaces. We regenerate public spaces that have been neglected for decades. Blaha Lujza Square, Déri Miksa Street, Somogyi Béla Street, Losonci Square, Horváth Mihály Square and Szeszgyár Street are all being renovated. Krúdy and Mária Street, 1-1 section of Szigony Street, the intersections of Népszínház Street have been renewed, and several other streets have been resurfaced or are in the planning stage. In Józsefváros, living spaces and meeting places are springing up, creating green corridors accessible by scooter, bicycle or on foot, from the Palace Quarter to the Magdolna and Orczy neighbourhoods.

Trees instead of concrete. We are greening public spaces, plant trees, make ecological plantings, provide space for nature. Our goal is to be the first district, starting from the last in the city centre, in terms of green spaces by 2030: no street in Józsefváros without trees!

Safe transport. People want to live in safe and liveable cities. This is what our transport measures serve: traffic calming, sustainable parking, freeing up pavements, improving cycle lanes and traffic junctions, new zebra crossings and accessibility, new trolleybus lines, renovation of metro stations, reduced public transport season tickets for young people in need. We are fighting for pedestrian rights and better air quality.

Cool solutions. For us, urban development is not about pavements and tarmac. We consult with local people, and we develop plans after community planning or active consultation. We adapt developments to the challenges of our time, to climate change, which is a fundamental part of urban life, and to the interests of pedestrians and people with reduced mobility. We do not shy away from solutions that are less or not used at home. We build for the present and for the future of generations to come!

Corvin Quarter

The Corvin Quarter is not lacking in public space improvements: Leonardo Street, Szigony Street and a section of Tömő Street have been renewed and the renewal of Práter Street is currently ongoing. The traffic and parking chaos in Nagy Templom Street has been cleared up, and concentrated loading bays are being set up to help businesses and residents deliver packages. In and around Corvin Alley, we have doubled the capacity of the bins, new cleaning machines are roaming the area, we are gradually revitalising the pavement with high-pressure cleaning and we are carrying out concentrated cleaning on a monthly basis. We are greening the area: the green spaces of the Corvin Promenade and Brunszvik Julia Square have been renewed, and planting in the will start soon. We have widened the pavements on Nap Street and will start working on Corvin Ally in the spring.

Palotanegyed

BALÁZS SÁTLY, DÁVID KÖNCZÖL

We are trying to answer the most pressing questions of the Palace Quarter: we have developed a district parking strategy, which includes improving the parking situation for residents by creating exclusive residential parking spaces. The strategy has freed up parking spaces, some of which have been used to improve pedestrian access in the area by making pavements passable. We are improving the area with public space renovations: Blaha Lujza Square, Somogyi Béla Street, Krúdy and Mária Streets, and soon Kölcsey, Békési and Scheiber Sándor Streets. We will also make the neighbourhood and the apartment buildings in the area more pleasant by planting trees and greenery. The Harminckettesek Square will be transformed into a new, worthy city centre, a functional green community space, through a participatory process that will last several months.

KOPPÁNY BENDEGÚZ SZARVAS

Preserving the peaceful, family character of the neighbourhood is a strategic goal. Accordingly, the district’s playgrounds have been renewed: new equipment has been added to Tbilisi Square and Tisztes Street, and street fitness equipment has been installed in the Tisztes Street park. After decades, we have finally managed to take back a section of Törökbecse Street to Józsefváros, but we will not stop there! In the autumn we carried out a detailed needs assessment, and we will use this as a basis for further development of the freed public space and the rest of the district. We’ve also stepped up a gear in terms of community life: the Hungarian-Georgian Neighbour Festival on Tbilisi Square is now a tradition, and we welcome everyone each year. And we continue to seek out the residents of the neighbourhood at our regular community welcome hours. Everyone can still take the liberty to contact me, if we meet on the street.

The Momentum MEPs had fought for it, to increase the amount of EU funding that municipalities can directly apply to by 30 percent.

The Józsefváros Municipality took advantage of this opportunity. While the Orbán government is unable to bring home EU funds, the municipality has already won hundreds of millions of forints in EU grants, directly aimed at the district. These funds have been used to launch programmes to improve kindergartens, child participation and energy efficiency. The municipality is applying for a further 2 billion HUF in funding to carry out complex, innovative greeting, to ensure energetically and socially sustainable block rehabilitation in the district.
